A systems approach to malaria control: an institutional perspective.Temel T Agricultural Economics and Rural Policy Group, Wageningen University, Mansholtlaan 10-12, 6708 PA Wageningen, The Netherlands. tugrul.temel@wur.nl This study introduces a systems approach to malaria control. Comprising organizations from the health, environmental, agricultural, economic, political, and social sectors, the malaria control system (MCS) at hand is organized around a common goal of improving living conditions through reduced malaria. The premise is that effective malaria control strategies require the establishment of organizational linkages for information and knowledge flow in the MCS. The study first describes the systems approach. It then compares it with an existing cross-sector approach and identifies areas where the developed approach complements the existing ones. Lastly, it shows the application of the developed approach in the context of malaria control in Ghana. Published 20 December 2004 in Health Policy, 71(2): 161-80.
